In 2001, filmmaker Kamal Aljafari took a road trip through Gaza, searching for a former cellmate from his time in prison.
Rediscovering the three miniDV tapes that he recorded then, as he moved through Gaza in the midst of the second intifada, he creates a poignant time capsule of a place and time that no longer exist. As the camera moves through streets and landscapes, it records fleeting moments of everyday life – fragments of a reality now irreversibly altered.
With Hasan in Gaza transforms this forgotten footage into a cinematic reflection on memory, loss and the passage of time, capturing a Gaza of the past and lives that may never be found again.
